Also there are more people on the ballot than just the president. When you stay home, you’re also skipping out on votes for House, Senate, State legislatures, judges, and others, all of whom are also hugely important and influential.
Maybe Biden won’t be that great. But he’s bound to have a better cabinet than this one.
^ this right here
The number of Russian Bots right now screaming “#NeverBiden!” is through the roof. I wonder how many people they’ll trick into staying home?
Do you think the people behind the bots place bets on how many Americans they can get to unironically reblog an agreement to completely give up on the US elections and hand the country over to Trump and his cronies for another four years?
Much as I would’ve been thrilled to vote for Bernie (and did in the primaries), please remember that if you think voting for another candidate in the 2020 election is “making your voice heard” or “not settling for the lesser of two evils,” you are fooling yourself.
No third-party candidate is going to have an actual viable shot to win the 2020 presidential election. They didn’t have a shot in 2016 either, no matter what people like to tell themselves. And that dissension among liberal and Democratic voters is exactly why we lost. (That and the 20-year smear campaign and the Russian bots, but I digress.)
Republicans and conservatives will vote along party lines come hell or high water. They’ve been conditioned to do it and they’ll continue to do it. There is no division and no thought of voting for someone other than the Republican candidate.
So yes, a vote for someone other than Trump’s opponent is essentially a vote for Trump. Because it’s one less vote for a candidate who actually stands a nationwide chance of preventing his re-election.
This same bullshit happened in 2000, and we WARNED people in 2016, but folks didn’t listen. We cannot afford to make the same mistake two terms in a row.
Yes, Biden is a piece of shit too. But he’s a piece of shit that stands a chance of listening to the populace and actually has some goddamn political experience, rather than an unhinged megalomaniacal bigot who acts with impunity, ignores science and human rights (when he isn’t shitting on them), and refuses to be counseled or advised by anyone who isn’t a syncophantic enabler.
It’s going to be Biden or Trump this November. That’s just the way it is. I don’t like it and neither do many of you. But here’s the thing - liking it is irrelevant right now.
We can’t afford four more years of Trump.
